I am busy revamping the site at www.domainskills.com it will hopefully cover some of the questions that surround domain names.

The site will be aimed at people new to domains and try to answer their questions.

Nominet lost the vote on Thursday at the EGM it was one of the first things that was said at the EGM. 

The strange thing was that after the vote and looseing the motions the board went into why they had put forward the proposals in the first place which was the first time this had been done previous to that it was a case of take them or leave them.

They seemed to make more sense when they had been explained which begs the question why where they not explained in the first place then there might have been a different result.

The worrying thing is that there seems to be a lot of splits and the big 3 have in effect a block vote and this would be worse if there is a merger between 2 of the 3. This might explain why there was the proposed cap on voteing rights. 

Further it is hard to see any comercial company putting the good of the uk domain community ahead of thier own corporate objectives  

There are only a few days to go to the nominet vote and I am still not sure which way the vote is going to go.

It all really comes down to the 3 big players as they can nearly out vote the whole of the rest of the membership which if you ask me does not seem right. It would be better if it was one member one vote as the many would not be ruled by the few.

It would not surprise me if some partys who have been saying No to nominets plans who have got hold of proxy votes on this premise suddenly vote Yes when it comes to the vote that would be the ultimate stab in the back.

A few months ago i was interested in buying a website from someone from the states the site was about football. I showed an interest but felt un easy with the seller for some reason.

At the time there where offers on the table for the site around $600 but the seller wanted more as he was still getting a few $ from adverts. 

Today i saw the website and it is dead with people actually putting messages on the site saying how bad it is and to go elsewhere. It all seems a bit of a shame as it looked like it was good at one point probably before the current owner took over.

The point is if the owner had not wanted to pump and dump the site then in the long run he would have made more money than he will do if it sells today. The old saying that patience is a virtue comes to mind. 

Today i have been talking to some people in regard to prices for domains. It is amusing to me the way that people think that their domains are always better than the next persons.

Had a guy today who wanted a .com for reg fee due to him having the .net and co.uk I personally could not be bothered at the time reging the co.uk

They think that if they just ring up then they have some god given right to the domain and they always are ”experts” in whatever their field of work is ment to be more often than not they have got some $60 template and are reselling some hosting service from another reseller.   

Had one guy say that one of my co.uk’s was worth $1k surpriseing that as the revenue would easily exceed that in a short space of time.

I guess that this just higlights that any domain is only worth what the buyer is willing to pay and what the seller is willing to part with the domain for.

Today I logged into www.sedo.co.uk and there was something strange and this was that the co in co.uk was missing from all the co.uk domains that i have parked with them.

Apparently they have been emailed about the issue and sedo support said there was no problem.

Not sure what to make out of this as it is obvious that something is not right and further that when one clicks on a .uk domain as they have become in ones account all of a sudden an error screen comes up which is not all that useful.  

Personally all i hope is that the issue is sorted out as soon as possible.
